Assembly requires the following tools:
A sharp utility knife, a hammer, a cold chisel or flat blade
screwdriver and a sealant gun loaded with Simpson Fast
Tack Marine Sealant.
Acrylocks panels are located and held together
with small plastic cross joiners. |
To assemble panels, first line
up the design and lay then out on a clean surface - a sheet
or blanket over a table is ideal.
Starting at the edges, insert
the cross joiners in all the holes, including the outside corners.
Finish with the centre holes. |
| Tap the cross joiners into place
with a hammer and chisel so that they lie flush with the surface. |
Trim the edge and corner cross
joiners with a sharp utility knife. The cut cross joiners can
be re-used on the other side.
Preparation of the sealant nozzle is important.
First make a diagonal cut as shown.
Then make a perpendicular cut
approximately half way back from the tip. |
| This shaped nozzle will leave
an even bead of sealant. |
Apply sealant in long smooth
strokes. When you apply in the first direction, leave a small
(1-2 cm) gap over each cross joiner. Then you can complete
in the perpendicular direction with a single line of sealant.
There are several ways to finish. You can
simply smooth down the sealant by using a rubber glove after
dipping the finger in dishwashing liquid. Use a generous amount,
and practice a few times beforehand.
Alternatively you can finish
with pre-cut vinyl strips (as shown). Alternatives include
wood or aluminium, but you're only really limited by your imagination. |
To apply precut vinyl strips,
simply place onto the fresh sealant and smooth into place.
Allow 24 hours to cure, then flip over the panel and repeat
the process on the other side.
Once you have completed the other
side you are ready to mount your panel. Custom made wood framing
is available in several sizes. |
It is recommended that you first
install your frame before installing the acrylocks panel. Please
note that the example here shows installation into an uninstalled
frame.
To install, first apply sealant
to the perimeter of the frame. Then put the panel into place. |
Now apply sealant all the way
around the frame and panel.
Finally you can finish the frame
with the custom beading. |
Once installed, the wooden beading
should be carefully nailed in place.
